SUMMARY:District St George’s Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:As St George is the Patron Saint of Scouting\, each year\, on the Sunday nearest to St George’s Day\, all Scouts in Barnet Borough District take part in a Parade which ends with a Promise Renewal ceremony. This is an important event and we expect all members of the Group to attend. \nAs part of this special day\, all 6FB Scouts and Cubs are invited to meet at Hollywood Bowl before the Parade for a game and some food\, a treat which will be paid for by the Group. Afterwards we will walk to Victoria Park where the Parade is going to form up. Please note that if you can’t come to the Bowling\, you can still meet us at the Park for the Parade. (Coming to the Bowling only is not an option.) \n  \nBowling \nSunday 21st April\, 1130 at Hollywood Bowl\, High Road\, Finchley\, N12 0GL in full uniform. \n  \nParade \nSunday 21st April\, 1330 at Victoria Park\, N3 (Ballards Lane entrance) in full uniform (if this is a problem for you\, please speak to one of the leaders) – shirts tucked in\, scarf ironed and shoes polished. Wear something under your uniform if the weather is not warm. \nAlong with all the other Groups in Barnet District\, we will form up for the Parade in the park and then proceed to Stephens House\, East End Road\, N3 3QE for the Promise Renewal. Parents are welcome to view the Parade en route – anyone walking alongside is asked to please keep to the pavement and when the Parade reaches Stephens House\, wait outside until the whole Parade is through. \nNOTE: If heavy rain is forecast the Parade may be called off; the District Commissioner will inform the Group Scout Leader during the morning. \n  \nPick-up \nWe will dismiss at Stephens House (East End Road\, N3 3QE) at 1530.

SUMMARY:Southern 50 Challenge Hike
DESCRIPTION:The next annual Southern 50 will take place on the 10th February 2024.\nThe Southern 50 is a prestigious challenge hike\, one of the longest running events of its type in Scouting. \nIt’s a navigation event in the Chiltern Hills that’s been held every year since 1980 through the counties of Bedfordshire\, Buckinghamshire\, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire\, organised by Greater London North Scout County. \nThere are three routes: 50mile and 50km open to all\, and a 30km route exclusively for Explorer Scouts. \nEach team must comprise between 3 – 5 participants\, all of whom must be members of The Scout Association or Girlguiding UK. \nThe event is a test of good orienteering skills as well as physical ability and teamwork and unlike other well-known hikes the routes are different each year and so local knowledge will not be of help as the route will not be disclosed until the day of the event. All teams therefore start with exactly the same chance of winning a trophy. \nLike any other long-distance challenge\, the effort required to last the full course and receive a finishing certificate is an achievement. \nMany like to return to have another crack at the trophy or just to improve on their time. DESCRIPTION:Our Group Camp this October (20th – 22nd) will be at Phasels Wood Scout Camp\, Kings Langley\, Herts. (There is no postcode for the main entrance! The site is just 3 miles from Junction 20 Northbound of the M25 towards Hemel Hempstead on the A41. The entrance is in the second lay-by from the M25 roundabout. There is a sign just before the lay-by: ‘Scout Camp access via lay-by’.  If you use Google Maps you can put in the Plus Code PGGF+HW Kings Langley) \nPhasels Wood is around 30 to 45 minutes drive from Manor Drive\, depending on traffic. We will all meet at Phasels Wood at 7pm on the Friday and pick up on the Sunday at 3pm. If there are any transport problems we can try to help. \nThis is a great chance to practise your camping skills and add to your Nights Away experience! There are on-site activities from Abseiling to Zorbing and on Saturday there will be a Group Campfire in the evening. \nScouts will be sleeping in tents and you will be cooking some of your meals in Patrols\, on wood fires. We have booked indoor accommodation for the Cubs to sleep in\, which includes a kitchen and hall that we will use for any central meals. \nThe cost for this camp is £75\, with a £25 deposit requested by 8th October. As this invitation does not give parents much notice\, we are asking for a second payment of £25 by 22nd October and the balance of £25 by 5th November\, after the camp. \nA kit list is available on MyScout/OSM. \nPlease remember that as a Group we have money set aside via our Helping Hands scheme to ensure that no young person misses out on any of the opportunities that Scouting has to offer. If you want to attend camp but the cost is a barrier\, you can speak to any Leader or email our Chairman Richard Charles\, Chair@thescouthut.org.uk. We know that asking for help isn’t easy so we’re trying to make it as simple as we can; there are no forms to fill in and you won’t be asked to make any repayments.

DESCRIPTION:The Chiltern 20 Challenge Hike is a tough walk in The Chiltern Hills\, organised by Greater London North Scout County. \nThe Challenge is a test of physical ability as well as good orienteering. \nThere are two levels of this Challenge event: a Senior event where the Scouts will navigate around a longer route of up to 25km\, and a Junior event where the Scouts will navigate around a shorter route of up to 15km. \nThe Senior event is for any member of the Scout Troop. There are two entry levels in the Senior event\, either no adult walking with team\, or a maximum of two adults walking with the team. \nThe Junior event is for Scouts aged under 12 years old on the day. They must be accompanied by one or two adults. This event is ideally suited for Scouts that have not taken part before. \nAll adults accompanying a team must be current members of The Scout Association and have a valid DBS certificate on the day of the event and must supply their membership number when teams are registered.  Any adult walking with a team is honour bound not to take the lead.  This role is purely to ensure the safety of the young people. \nEach team must be comprised of between 3 – 5 participants\, all of whom must be members of The Scout Association or Girl Guiding UK.
