SUMMARY:Scout Summer Camp
DESCRIPTION:Where is the camp? \nWe’re going to Wymondley Wood Scout and Guide centre\, a residential and camping centre for organised youth groups. \nLocated between the picturesque villages of Willian and Great Wymondley in North Hertfordshire\, the 4-acre site is situated in a 20-acre conservation area consisting of mature woodland\, streams\, ponds and open grassland. \nHow will we get there? \nWe are going to travel by minibus\, from Manor Drive with equipment and personal kit going in a lorry. The Journey is very straight forward and will take no longer than 1 hour and will return to Manor Drive at 17:00 on the 2nd August. \nWhat happens at camp? \nScouts will sleep in tents and camp in Patrols\, cooking on wood fires. As usual there will be a Patrol points competition\, a cooking contest\, games and evening entertainment when we all get together at Cake O’clock in The Palace! Offsite activities will include hiking and visits and we are planning to go to an Aquapark and a High Ropes facility. The programme will also include wide games\, pioneering and a day out. \nHow much will it cost? \n£275 plus spending money (£35 maximum). Please confirm attendance by Sunday 22 June with a non-refundable deposit of £75. Further payments will be requested in accordance with the payment schedule on OSM/My Scout (£100 by 6 July and £100 by 20 July). Spending money is to be paid to a leader by Friday 18 July (by cash\, in an envelope marked with the Scout’s name\, please); Scouts can then withdraw their spending money from Camp Bank during the camp itself. \nWe understand the financial pressures that parents face and do not want any of our members to feel excluded. Please speak to one of the leaders in confidence if you need assistance from our Helping Hand fund. Summer Camp is the highlight of the Scouting year and allows us to put into practice many of the skills we learn in our weekly programme. We don’t want anyone to miss out on this opportunity. \nHow do I find out more? \nIf you would like find out more about camp please come to a short presentation at Frith Grange on Thursday26th June at 8:30pm where we will be available to answer any of your questions. \nKit lists\, parental consent forms and further information will be issued nearer the time. \nMeanwhile\, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.

DESCRIPTION:Kidscape are a UK-leading\, award-winning provider of Safeguarding and Child Protection\, Bullying Awareness\, Peer Mentoring and Online Safety training. They provide specialist training courses to schools\, sports clubs and all organisations that have a duty of care towards children and families. \nThe Bullying Awareness Training for adults course is specifically designed to develop awareness of bullying and cyberbullying. The session explores recent guidance and offers solutions to how organisations can work together to create inclusive environments and provide effective support for children and young people. \nOn completion of this course\, you will be able to: \n\nDetail what behaviours constitute bullying and harassment\nShare awareness of the prevalence of bullying\nRecognise the impact and long-term effects of bullying on children and young people\nDetail the differences and similarities of cyberbullying\nKnow how to appropriately deal with bullying incidents\nLead on future plans to reduce the effects of bullying behaviours\n\nThe 6th Friern Barnet are offering this course to all adults in the Group who have interactions with young people.  There’s no charge.  Any spare places will be offered to other adults in Barnet Borough Scout District. \nDrinks and biscuits will be provided.  There is no need to wear uniform. \nSee https://www.kidscape.org.uk/training-and-workshops/training-for-adults-who-work-with-children/bullying-awareness for more details of the course content.

SUMMARY:District St George’s Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:As St George is the Patron Saint of Scouting\, each year\, on the Sunday nearest to St George’s Day\, all Scouts in Barnet Borough District take part in a Parade which ends with a Promise Renewal ceremony. This is an important event and we expect all members of the Group to attend. \nAs part of this special day\, all 6FB Scouts and Cubs are invited to meet at Hollywood Bowl before the Parade for a game and some food\, a treat which will be paid for by the Group. Afterwards we will walk to Victoria Park where the Parade is going to form up. Please note that if you can’t come to the Bowling\, you can still meet us at the Park for the Parade. (Coming to the Bowling only is not an option.) \n  \nBowling \nSunday 27th April\, 1130 at Hollywood Bowl\, High Road\, Finchley\, N12 0GL in full uniform. \n  \nParade \nSunday 27th April\, 1330 at Victoria Park\, N3 (Ballards Lane entrance) in full uniform (if this is a problem for you\, please speak to one of the leaders) – shirts tucked in\, scarf ironed and shoes polished. Wear something under your uniform if the weather is not warm. \nAlong with all the other Groups in Barnet District\, we will form up for the Parade in the park and then proceed to Stephens House\, East End Road\, N3 3QE for the Promise Renewal. Parents are welcome to view the Parade en route – anyone walking alongside is asked to please keep to the pavement and when the Parade reaches Stephens House\, wait outside until the whole Parade is through. \nNOTE: If heavy rain is forecast the Parade may be called off; the District Lead Volunteer will inform the Group Lead Volunteer during the morning and he will pass the news on to the Group. \n  \nPick-up \nWe will dismiss at Stephens House (East End Road\, N3 3QE) at 1530.

SUMMARY:District St George’s Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:As St George is the Patron Saint of Scouting\, each year\, on the Sunday nearest to St George’s Day\, all Scouts in Barnet Borough District take part in a Parade which ends with a Promise Renewal ceremony. This is an important event and we expect all members of the Group to attend. \nAs part of this special day\, all 6FB Scouts and Cubs are invited to meet at Hollywood Bowl before the Parade for a game and some food\, a treat which will be paid for by the Group. Afterwards we will walk to Victoria Park where the Parade is going to form up. Please note that if you can’t come to the Bowling\, you can still meet us at the Park for the Parade. (Coming to the Bowling only is not an option.) \n  \nBowling \nSunday 21st April\, 1130 at Hollywood Bowl\, High Road\, Finchley\, N12 0GL in full uniform. \n  \nParade \nSunday 21st April\, 1330 at Victoria Park\, N3 (Ballards Lane entrance) in full uniform (if this is a problem for you\, please speak to one of the leaders) – shirts tucked in\, scarf ironed and shoes polished. Wear something under your uniform if the weather is not warm. \nAlong with all the other Groups in Barnet District\, we will form up for the Parade in the park and then proceed to Stephens House\, East End Road\, N3 3QE for the Promise Renewal. Parents are welcome to view the Parade en route – anyone walking alongside is asked to please keep to the pavement and when the Parade reaches Stephens House\, wait outside until the whole Parade is through. \nNOTE: If heavy rain is forecast the Parade may be called off; the District Commissioner will inform the Group Scout Leader during the morning. \n  \nPick-up \nWe will dismiss at Stephens House (East End Road\, N3 3QE) at 1530.

SUMMARY:Southern 50 Challenge Hike
DESCRIPTION:The next annual Southern 50 will take place on the 10th February 2024.\nThe Southern 50 is a prestigious challenge hike\, one of the longest running events of its type in Scouting. \nIt’s a navigation event in the Chiltern Hills that’s been held every year since 1980 through the counties of Bedfordshire\, Buckinghamshire\, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire\, organised by Greater London North Scout County. \nThere are three routes: 50mile and 50km open to all\, and a 30km route exclusively for Explorer Scouts. \nEach team must comprise between 3 – 5 participants\, all of whom must be members of The Scout Association or Girlguiding UK. \nThe event is a test of good orienteering skills as well as physical ability and teamwork and unlike other well-known hikes the routes are different each year and so local knowledge will not be of help as the route will not be disclosed until the day of the event. All teams therefore start with exactly the same chance of winning a trophy. \nLike any other long-distance challenge\, the effort required to last the full course and receive a finishing certificate is an achievement. \nMany like to return to have another crack at the trophy or just to improve on their time. DESCRIPTION:Our last Church Parade of 2023 will be the Carol Service at Manor Drive in the afternoon on Sunday 17th December. \nWe would like everyone to make a special effort to attend\, in full uniform please. Attendance at Church Parades has been poor\, and a good turnout would show Manor Drive how much we appreciate their support in allowing us to be part of the church community. \nIt’s a special service for Christmas and parents are of course very welcome to come along\, too. Please arrive at 3.45pm so that we can form up as a Group before the service starts at 4.00pm.
