Scout Summer Camp | By Drew Rush Where is the camp? We’re going to Wymondley Wood Scout and Guide centre, a residential and camping centre for organised youth groups. Located between the picturesque villages of Willian and Great Wymondley in North Hertfordshire, the 4-acre site is situated in a 20-acre conservation area consisting of mature woodland, streams, ponds and open grassland. How will we get there? We are going to travel by minibus, from Manor Drive with equipment and personal kit going in a lorry. The Journey is very straight forward and will take no longer than 1 hour and will return to Manor Drive at 17:00 on the 2nd August. What happens at camp? Scouts will sleep in tents and camp in Patrols, cooking on wood fires. As usual there will be a Patrol points competition, a cooking contest, games and evening entertainment when we all get together at Cake O’clock in The Palace! Offsite activities will include hiking and visits and we are planning to go to an Aquapark and a High Ropes facility. The programme will also include wide games, pioneering and a day out. How much will it cost? £275 plus spending money (£35 maximum). Please confirm attendance by Sunday 22 June with a non-refundable deposit of £75. Further payments will be requested in accordance with the payment schedule on OSM/My Scout (£100 by 6 July and £100 by 20 July). Spending money is to be paid to a leader by Friday 18 July (by cash, in an envelope marked with the Scout’s name, please); Scouts can then withdraw their spending money from Camp Bank during the camp itself. We understand the financial pressures that parents face and do not want any of our members to feel excluded. Please speak to one of the leaders in confidence if you need assistance from our Helping Hand fund. Summer Camp is the highlight of the Scouting year and allows us to put into practice many of the skills we learn in our weekly programme. We don’t want anyone to miss out on this opportunity. How do I find out more? If you would like find out more about camp please come to a short presentation at Frith Grange on Thursday26th June at 8:30pm where we will be available to answer any of your questions. Kit lists, parental consent forms and further information will be issued nearer the time. Meanwhile, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
Scouts’ Chiltern 20 Challenge Hike | By Drew Rush The Chiltern 20 Challenge Hike is a tough walk in The Chiltern Hills, organised by Greater London North Scout County. The Challenge is a test of physical ability as well as good orienteering. There are two levels of this Challenge event: a Senior event where the Scouts will navigate around a longer route of up to 25km, and a Junior event where the Scouts will navigate around a shorter route of up to 15km. The Senior event is for any member of the Scout Troop. There are two entry levels in the Senior event, either no adult walking with team, or a maximum of two adults walking with the team. The Junior event is for Scouts aged under 12 years old on the day. They must be accompanied by one or two adults. This event is ideally suited for Scouts that have not taken part before. All adults accompanying a team must be current members of The Scout Association and have a valid DBS certificate on the day of the event and must supply their membership number when teams are registered. Any adult walking with a team is honour bound not to take the lead. This role is purely to ensure the safety of the young people. Each team must be comprised of between 3 – 5 participants, all of whom must be members of The Scout Association or Girl Guiding UK.

Hike for Haarlem | By Drew Rush Our leaders are taking on the Southern 50 Challenge to raise funds to help our Scouts to go to the Haarlem Jamborette in August. The Southern 50 is a tough 50k walk in the Chiltern Hills through Buckinghamshire and surrounding counties, organised by Greater London North Scouts. We want to fund at least £10,000 of the total cost. The more that we raise, the less that they have to pay. Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate a little or a lot. Anything helps. Please help us to get to Haarlem! Thank you for your support. Donate
